André Bonhommé
André Bonhommé has a number of wines in his portfolio, based in Viré Clessé, but this for us is the best value and has such quality that we couldn't resist. As is so often the case with the more famous villages in Burgundy, wine prices are high and as demand is higher than supply, many merchants have to look further and further afield. But Viré Clessé seems to be an exception. In a similar vein to wines from the different villages that use the Macon prefix, or Saint Romain, Saint Aubin or Givry, there is so much that lies just under the surface of the most famous vineyards. This means that when we find these wines we want to share them as a good news story that doesn't involve super-high-priced Burgundy.
