This is a lovely, bright red from a great Tuscan producer based in Chianti. An entry-Super-Tuscan, this is modern and fresh yet layered and rewarding.

Carpineto are a Chianti Classico producer based in Dudda on the eastern flank of Chianti Classico. Their winery, which is a modern construction, makes wines from DOCs across Tuscany and in a variety of styles. From Chianti to Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva and Brunello their wines are all fruit-forward, juicy and well-structured, which makes them excellent with food, enjoyable on their own and very genuinely representative of this part of Tuscany. Established in 1967 by Giovanni Carlo Sacchet and Antonion Mario Zaccheo, the winery had a mission which was to make world-class wines in Chianti Classico, which was much more difficult than it is now. Chianti was in a mire with little quality reputation in more than a handful of wineries. These two men then were visionaries, and their children and now grandchildren are ensuring that the management of the 430 hectares is still done with the same values as had been set up fifty years ago.
