Description
Casa Emma's 21 hectares of vines is 420 metres above sea level in the central Tuscan hills. An historic farmhouse sits in the centre of the vineyards that form a rectangular bowl of sloping vines that catch the best of the sun's rays all through the year. Since 1973 the current owners, Fiorella Lepri and her son Alessandro Buccalossi, have been obsessively attentive to the vines and constantly evaluate the success of each single plant in every block, so that there are often new and younger vines being developed. This wine is the product of a combination of some of these younger vines and, unusually for Casa Emma, there is a good proportion of Merlot in this Chianti Classico. Merlot, which has been in the estate since they bought it in 1973, is normally only used in their iconic 'Soloio' but here, adds some softness and juicy ripe fruit to the young Sangiovese. The result is a fresh and tasty, ripe, juicy wine that is a joy to drink on its own, but takes on a new lease of life with food.
