Chateau du Cedre is one of the chief reasons that there is any wine from Cahors available outside of this wonderful, hidden gem of a region. The winemaker and owner, Paschal Verhaeghe, is a brilliant man, winemaker and quiet visionary. His wines are outstanding windows into his terroir and show the quality that the world has been missing for so long from Malbec outside of South America. It is hard to believe that these wines were so long hidden by the success and fame of Bordeaux, as they offer so much. This then is an opening into the world of French Malbec and is bright, but earthy, brambly and tannic. It's a food wine for sure, but is also revealing on its own, showing dark fruit and some integrated spice notes too.
