Chakana, Estate Malbec, 2013

Argentina · Mendoza · Uco Valley
This is a brilliant Malbec that does exactly what we expect from the variety. It is smooth and rich yet not overpowering. Great on its own too.

Chakana is a relatively recent winery that has already make a very strong name for itself in producing excellent terroir-driven wines that are made in a modern and accessible style. Very much the food matching variety, Malbec can sometimes become austere when the winemaker seeks out soil characteristics, but in this case there is ample fruit too and a generous use of new oak. All in all it is a very enjoyable and versatile glass of wine that has made us seek out the wines from further up their portfolio.
