Craggy Range
Craggy Range are a brilliant winery - no matter where in the world you compare them with, they stand up to the very highest levels of quality wine production. Their main focus is terroir and from their base in Hawkes Bay, it's understandable why: the sub region that has been called Gimblet Gravels is a superb area in which to grow a large range of grapes, but it is especially suited to Bordeaux varieties on account of the well-draining soils. However, as they know their patch so well, they could see that the best place for them to grow and make their Sauvignon was just in the same place that so many others have grown theirs: Marlborough. From one vineyard site on the Te Munia road, they harvest exceptional quality grapes that produce a wine of rare quality. Indeed, it is probably one of the top three of four Sauvignons in a very crowded category and given the price of some of the competition, this remains a good value proposition!
