De Loach, Heritage Collection Chardonnay

The De Loach winery is a focussed operation set up by the brilliant Boisset family from Burgundy. This is one of a number that have been set up in California to achieve similar goals to their French counterparts; namely, to make wines from grapes that show quality of terroir and express regional climatic influences in outstanding and typical wines. No easy feat, this wine shows that their French experiences are used with expertise and sensitivity. This Chardonnay could only be from California, but it could also only have been made by someone well-versed in French winemaking. It is, if you like, the best of both worlds and a rare presence of an oaked Chardonnay that even those who are dead set against it could drink with pleasure and ease.
