Dog Point Vineyards
The Healy and Sutherland families who run and own Dog Point have seen their fair share of change in Marlborough since the first vines were planted on their farms. Having provided grapes for the most famous and most expensive Marlborough wines, they eschewed fame and the trappings of globalisation and in 2003 went about doing things in the same way as they had always done but this time, on their own. Still generous, they make room in the winery for their friend Kevin Judd to make his wine there and whilst he's at it, they even lend him some grapes. This attitude and focus on the land and growing quality grapes has kept Dog Point right at the front of quality wine fans' mind; it seems that their turning from mainstream attention, in the end, created a different type of popularity that was not based on a brand, but on quality. All of their wines are fantastic, but this Sauvignon achieves higher regard in our books because it is so much better than many other competitors in a very crowded field.
