Dona Paula
Dona Paula are a superb wine estate in Mendoza who have serious financial backing to make wines from single sites at many various altitude levels. This ensures that they are able to extract the best in each variety from each of the sites that they use and, by extension, make great wines. What's most impressive, perhaps, is that this philosophy is applied to all of their wines, whatever the perceived level. This entry-level Malbec is a good example: soft and plummy, it tastes of lovely Malbec but is not too over-cooked. They keep it fresh because the grapes are fresh and have higher acidity than those from other areas. Quality wine that is authentic? We can't ask for more than that.
