Geil, Riesling Trocken, 2015

Germany · Rheinhessen · Bechtheim
This is a focused, dry Riesling that is a long way from sugary wines of the 1970s. Full of apple flavours it is mouth-watering, dry and delicious.

Weingut Johannes Geil
Johannes Geil and his wife Elizabeth, run his father's winery in the tiny village of Bechtheim, about an hour and a half from Frankfurt. They still function as a municipal farm, growing corn, managing cattle and (almost in their spare time, it could appear) managing their vineyards. The truth is, of course, that there are increasing winery demands on the family that mean even the most traditional of practices have to be re-examined to get the most out of the potential business. In recent years this has meant that the winery has moved centre-stage - helped in no small part by rave reviews from the influential German wine magazine Falstaff. This claimed value, individual style and very high quality to be the hallmarks of this winery and others like it in the town. This, their statement about Riesling from their simplest of vines, is a brilliant hallmark of consistent quality, refreshing style and authentic flavours. A great entry for anyone who likes white wine, or come to it, wine at all.
