La Bastide Saint Dominique is an estate in heart of Provence, right in the foothills of Chateauneuf du Pape, alongside the Southern Rhône Valley. The region enjoys excellent climatic conditions with the strong, dry, warm Mistral wind and very hot and dry summers. Built around a former 16th century chapel, the estate was established by Marie-Claude and Gérard Bonnet, who have seen it grow from only a handful of hectares to total of fifty hectares, all of which (since 2014) are certified organic. Since 1999, their son Eric has been working with them and now takes care of the whole process from production to vinification. At La Bastide Saint Dominique, there is the living-out of what much of the world has seen in France, but all on one estate: that is primarily the tension between old and new. Their presence within appellations of world-wide reputation, set against modern fashions and an ever-changing wine consumer base. Eric’s decisions have seen modern equipment, organic viticulture and the identification of specific vineyard sites for planting single-varietal vineyards and an overhaul of packaging (even though he won’t openly admit the importance of this!). All of which has been impressively delivered and sees the wines now regularly garner high scores from critics and journalists across the globe. This is a property we are delighted to import and represent in Ireland and look forward to seeing its continued success.
