This house is the result of the Spanish expulsion of the Moors in the early 16th Century. A Caliph and his wife were executed leaving only their daughter to survive in the protection of a Christian knight. As they (unsurprisingly) fell in love, they established the "Casa de Mureda", the House of the Moors, that then simply became Mureda. The original house with metre-thick walls, is still standing and is the home to the winery that has 1200 hectares of vines. The size of this holding understandably allows for a huge range of wines and we are particularly impressed that they have allowed for these great, organic wines to be available at such affordable prices. Clean and fresh and made from indigenous Spanish varieties, they represent good value and have delicious flavours.
