Niepoort, Senior, Tawny Port

Niepoort is a Port producer who are famous for their Tawny styles. Originally a producer of grapes that were then sold to other producers, the family began its own wine production relatively recently in the last century. Now leading the field in a diverse range of Port styles, they are also responsible for the boom in production of non-fortified wines from Portugal and the promotion of these as excellent wines in their own right. This Tawny is from their top drawer of non-age statement Ports and is taken from their best barrels with an average age of seven years aging. Blending follows and bottling is carried out exactly when the wine is destined for market, which means that the wines hit our shelves as fresh as they can be, with no risk of taint or tired fruit. It is a style that we have tended to neglect in these parts, which can give great satisfaction. Tawny is also the style that is most consumed in Portugal itself.
